UPDATE: Ministry to continue privatization, sees 1st deals Sep–Nov

(Adds comments in last three paragraphs)

MOSCOW, Jun 23 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Finance Ministry plans to continue privatization, and first deals may take place already in September–November, Deputy Minister Alexei Moiseyev said on Tuesday.

“First, we are going to continue privatization ... Given the consequences of the coronavirus, it seems to me that we will return to the privatization paradigm and continue as soon as the stock markets open. And, it seems to me that the first deals will be made as early as this fall, at least several privatization agreements are currently being prepared,” Moiseyev said.

“Unfortunately, I can’t disclose information, otherwise the central bank will accuse me of giving insider information,” he added.

Moiseyev also said that the ministry plans to return to fulfilling the budget rule by 2022.

“We have opened all the ‘gateways’ on the fiscal side in the last couple of months to support the economy and people who could not support themselves because of coronavirus. But all these measures are temporary… We intend to return to the budget rule by 2022,” he said.

The budget rule stipulates that at high oil prices, additional oil and gas revenues of the state are allocated to reserves, and when prices fall, funds reserved in the National Wealth Fund go to cover the budget deficit.
